India has announced its 15-player squad for the Asia Cup 2025, along with five standby players. Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain, even though he has not played for the team in over a year. Big names Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer missed out on the squad. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said Jaiswal was unlucky because Abhishek Sharma’s strong form and his bowling option meant only one of them could play. He added that Iyer was also left out through no fault of his own and will have to wait for another opportunity.

Shreyas Iyer led PBKS to the final of IPL 2025

Shreyas Iyer missed out on the Asia Cup squad despite leading Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final. He accumulated 604 runs in 17 innings, averaging 50.33 with a strike rate of 175.07, including six half-centuries and a top score of 97.

Jaiswal’s performance in IPL 2025

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. He made 559 runs in 14 matches, averaging 43 with a strike rate of 159.71, including six fifties. Both Iyer and Jaiswal were deserving of a place in the squad, but as Agarkar said, they were unlucky to miss out this time.
